Veteran Hausa musician Adamu Wayya popularly called Dan Maraya Jos has been reported dead. The veteran musician passed away at the age of 69 today Saturday June 20, 2015, after a brief illness in Bukur, near Jos in Plateau State. In his lifetime, Dan Maraya Jos was best known for playing the ‘Kontigi’ (a small, single-stringed lute). Dan Marayan Jos is a Hausa statement, which means ‘The Little Orphan of Jos‘, was born in 1946. His first, and perhaps still his most famous song is ‘Wakar Karen Mota‘.
During the Nigerian Civil War, he composed numerous songs in praise of soldiers of the federal army and incorporated vivid accounts of scenes from the war in his songs.
